Ntelos taps Alcatel-Lucent for Rev. A upgrade

Regional telecommunications provider Ntelos Holding Corp.’s reported a deal with Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade the company’s wireless network with CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A equipment. The deal is valued at $88.2 million and includes Ntelos’ network in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and North Carolina.
“We have decided to upgrade our networks using Alcatel-Lucent CDMA technology based on their proven ability to deliver a 3G solution that will transform our network to a next-generation system, bringing the benefits of new, advanced services to our customers and improving our operations,” said Bobby McAvoy, VP of wireless engineering and operations at Ntelos.
Through the deal, Alcatel-Lucent will also provide its 7750 Service Router and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch to deploy an IP routing and IP radio access network backhaul solution. The infrastructure vendor will provide installation, engineering, training and technical support for the project.
Ntelos’ wireless service is closely aligned with Sprint Nextel Corp. and allows the regional carrier to offer nationwide roaming to its customers.
