Motorola Solutions has acquired law enforcement application company Callyo for an undisclosed sum, adding cloud-based apps to its mobile public safety tech portfolio.
Callyo has two application suites: 10-21, focused on communications between first responders and citizens, and Callyo, which offers tools for digital evidence collection. Motorola said that the acquisition rbings “critical mobile technology capabilities that enable information to flow seamlessly from the field to the command center” to Motorola’s existing software suite for public safety command centers.
Callyo’s 10-21 Police Phone and 10-21 Video apps are among those listed in FirstNet app catalog (pdf). The 10-21 Police Phone app allows officers to make phone calls to individuals via a local phone number so that members of the public can call back for free. The video app enables on-demand recorded or live-streaming video via a smartphone, and has peer tune-in and conceal capabilities.
“First responders are increasingly looking to mobile applications to boost productivity and enhance community relations,” said Andrew Sinclair, SVP and GM for software enterprise at Motorola Solutions. “With Callyo’s technology, agencies can improve collaboration and enhance the evidence collection process to build stronger cases more efficiently, ultimately enabling them to better serve and keep communities safe.”
This is Motorola Solution’s third acquisition this year and second acquisition within the past month. In early August, the company announced the $110 million purchase of California-based video security camera and analytics company Pelco.
Motorola has made six buys in the past two years as it bolsters various aspects of its portfolio, with a particular emphasis on video-related technology. In addition to the Pelco deal, those acquisitions have included:
-The purchase of U.K.-based IndigoVision, completed in June 2020. IndigoVIsion develops end-to-end video security solutions, including cameras, video management software, encoders and storage devices.
-In January 2019, Motorola Solutions bought data and image analysis-as-a-service company VaaS International for $445 million in cash and equity. VaaS specialized in license plate reading and vehicle location data for first responders.
-The company picked up voice-over-IP dispatch provider Avtec for an undisclosed sum in March 2019.
-In July 2019, Motorola Solutions bought mobile video company WatchGuard, which designed and manufactured in-car video systems, body-worn cameras, evidence management systems and software.
