Palm Pre Plus on AT&T launches May 16th

According to a post by AT&T on its Facebook page, the Palm Pre Plus is set to hit both retail and online shelves on May the 16th
The Pre Plus is a slightly updated version of the earlier Pre model which has been available on Sprint since June 6th last year. It still has the same 3.1 inch 320×480 touch screen, the same 3.2MP camera and the same 500mhz Arm Cortex A8 based processor.
Where it differs is that the Pre Plus has increased internal storage from the original 8gb to 16gb, as well as upping the 256mb of ram found in the original to a more generous 512mb. It also removes the center button, upgrades the keyboard, sliding mechanism and makes the battery cover Touchstone compatible.
AT&T goes on to state that the Pre Plus will be available for $150 after contract and mail-in rebate, which is ridiculously steep considering the Pre is now only $30 on contract with Verizon.
To help ease that upfront price, however, AT&T is saying that those punters who buy their Pre Plus in-store will receive a free Palm Touchstone charging dock, a nifty little gadget which charges the phone wirelessly by simply sitting the Pre on top of it.
Not everyone is impressed, however. AT&T Facebook fan Dustin Lieblein writes: ” [I] still think it’s $50 more than it should be after rebate.” He adds, “why go to a cor store when you can go to Best Buy or Wal-Mart and get the same phone at a fraction of the cost?”
Additional details are set to be released on the 16th, so stay tuned.
