TOKYO-NEC Corp. said it will start marketing third-generation node base stations based on the Common Public Radio Interface specification.
The vendor said it will partner with Siemens AG in the project.
CPRI includes such vendors as L.M. Ericsson, Huawei Technologies Inc., Nortel Networks and, of course, Siemens and NEC.
CPRI supports specifications at odds with another group led by Nokia Corp. called the Open Base Station Architecture Initiative.
“As the specification evolves this year, NEC will be taking advantage of more advanced cascading techniques for greater coverage with lower capital costs,” said NEC.
