Zingy, BMG expand ring-tone licensing agreement

NEW YORK-Ring-tone powerhouse Zingy announced a major expansion in its deal with recording company BMG. The company said it scored the licenses to BMG’s master recordings, which means that Zingy will be able to sell ring tones that sound like actual BMG songs rather than beeps that approximate song melodies. Such ring tones will only be available to those handsets that can play them.

“Leveraging the capabilities of new technology handsets, Zingy is pushing mobile entertainment and personalization products to new heights,” said Andy Volanakis, Zingy’s senior vice president of business development. “Broad in scope, our deal with BMG includes clips of both hot new releases and a diverse mix of popular catalogue.”

Zingy also said it will develop a series of mobile promotions in support of BMG artist releases and initiatives.

Zingy sells a range of ring tones through its own Internet site as well as through various wireless carriers.
