WASHINGTON-A consumer group today will ask a federal appeals court to determine whether the Federal Communications Commission is doing enough to update rules governing human exposure to radiation from mobile phones and antennas.
The legal challenge of the EMR Network follows the FCC’s rejection of a request that the agency re-examine radiation protection guidelines to take account of new research. The litigation is bound to fuel the debate about whether the safety standard developed by government and industry protects against any non-thermal effects from radio-frequency energy.
The courts have upheld FCC radiation rules and rejected personal injury claims from cell-phone users.
