Nokia Corp. is hoping to encourage development for its S60 platform with a new plug-in extension for Linux-targeted open source projects.
The Finnish company announced the availability of an SDK designed to give S60 developers working in the Symbian C/C++ environment a familiar standard of C-function libraries. The software, which is available for download at www.forum.nokia.com/openc, will broaden the potential pool of S60 developers by making it easier for them to port their open-source applications to the platform, according to Ravi Belwal, senior technology expert at Forum Nokia.
“Open C acts like a bridge,” Belwal said at CTIA Wireless 2007 last week. “There’s a big community of open-source developers, and we wanted to extend S60 to the open source and Linux communities.”
