Microsoft reports rising mobile revenues

REDMOND, Wash.-Software giant Microsoft Corp. reported revenues of $10.15 billion for its second quarter, up 19 percent over the same quarter in the previous year. The company’s net income clocked in at $1.5 billion, down slightly from the $1.9 billion in net income in the same quarter in the previous year due to Microsoft’s new stock-based compensation expense of $2.17 billion.

“Consumer and corporate demand for PCs continued to exceed our expectations and resulted in solid double-digit revenue growth for Windows XP and Office products,” said John Connors, chief financial officer at Microsoft.

Microsoft’s stock was up slightly after the news to about $28.56 per share.

Microsoft saw a major jump in its mobile and embedded devices revenues, from $38 million a year ago to $63 million in the most recent quarter. Microsoft’s mobile and embedded devices group covers sales of its Pocket PC and Smartphone operating systems.
