ATHENS, Greece-Greek mobile operator Stet Hellas Telecommunications reported it will launch commercial third-generation services next Tuesday. Two Nokia UMTS handsets-the 6650 and 7600-along with the Motorola A835 and the Siemens U15 devices will be available for the service.
The service will initially be available in the greater Athens and Thessaloniki areas, with Patra and Irakleion to follow.
The operator will offer 70 minutes of voice time, 40 megabytes of WAO and Web browsing and 15 multimedia messages for $48 per month, with a promotional monthly fee of $29 for new subscribers to the service who subscribe by Aug. 1.
Rival operator Cosmote also plans to have partial UMTS service in time for the 2004 Olympics Games in Athens.
