AWS reduces int'l calling charges for 30 countries, extends text messaging

BASKING RIDGE, N.J.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said it has reduced per-minute rates for calling 30 frequently dialed countries from the United States and has extended the reach of its international text messaging to nearly half of the world’s wireless subscribers.

The reduced calling rates are available to customers who sign up for the carrier’s Enhanced Discounted International Dialing service, which costs $4 per month and allows customers to call 220 countries at discounted rates from the carrier’s network, and are on a qualifying rate plan. The discounts range from 30 cents per minute for calls to Venezuela to 8 cents per minute for calls to the Philippines. Including the discount, international calls to the select 30 countries range from 6 cents per minute to the United Kingdom and Taiwan to up to 54 cents per minute to Vietnam.

AT&T Wireless also said its international text messaging service now spans 40 countries, including 18 of the 30 countries included on its discounted international calling list.
