Omantel signs contract with Siemens

LONDON-Incumbent Omani operator Omantel, has awarded a contract to Siemens AG to modernize its telecom network. The deal is worth about $23 million. The project will enable Omantel to meet growing demand for signaling capacity as a result of data from its intelligent network and increases in short message service traffic.

Under the terms of the agreement, SS7 signaling technology from Siemens will be deployed in the operator’s next-generation overlay network, and its TDM switching systems will be modernized with Siemens’ EWSD software. The vendor will also provide maintenance of the systems and training of personnel in Oman.

The introduction of the EWSD software will allow Omantel to migrate more simply to a next-generation network. Around 280,000 EWSD ports are currently installed in the country.
