CyberNet rolls out WiMAX in Calif.

CyberNet Communications Inc. said it deployed WiMAX-based wireless Internet access in parts of Los Angeles, Vernon and the city of Commerce, Calif. The company said that some customers have already been using the service for several months, and that speeds of up to 10 Megabits per second are available.
CyberNet is aiming the service at businesses who need multiple options for reliable high-speed Internet access or a redundancy option for large business customers who need data access. The company said its network would support applications such as Voice over Internet Protocol, video applications and hosted private telephone networks, or PBXs.
“As an alternative to traditional local loops, this wireless solution will enable customers to successfully support their mission critical applications,” said Bruce Hakini, CyberNet’s president. He estimated that business customers would save as much as 60 percent from the cost of a traditional T-1/DS3 connection.
