Nortel wins $56M contract in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan-Nortel Networks Ltd. said it will expand Pakistani mobile operator Pak Telecom Mobile Ltd.’s GSM 900 MHz national network under a $56 million contract. Nortel said it is the second major expansion by Nortel of the Ufone-branded network since building the original system in 2001.

The expand will raise Ufone’s capacity to 1.3 million subscribers. Nortel will expand and upgrade GSM radio base stations, switching, packet core and other equipment. PTML will also deploy Nortel’s Packet Voice Gateway, which Nortel said delivers toll-quality voice on its multiservice data switching platform.
