WASHINGTON-The Department of Defense inspector general has referred “to appropriate investigative authorities outside the Defense Department” the results of its preliminary inquiry into the awarding of mobile-phone licenses in Iraq, a Pentagon official told RCR Wireless News.
The official, who declined to be named, did not elaborate.
Reuters said last Thursday that the Pentagon had launched a full-scale investigation. DoD began investigating the mobile-phone license tender in November. The winners of a beauty contest were announced in October, but licenses have yet to be awarded.
