TWS 2016 to host first ever demo of Ericsson and AT&T 5G network

Texas Wireless Summit 2016 announced this year’s event, held on October 16, will feature the first-ever public demonstration of Ericsson and AT&T 5G millimeter wave (mm wave) technology.

Millimeter wave is an essential and fundamental component for 5G, and AT&T’s plans of developing its next generation mobile network. The 5G demo will showcase the possibility and feasibility of millimeter wave radio access technology for the cellular networks of the future. Developed by Ericsson, the new system incorporates key 5G technologies: large system bandwidth, phased arrays with ultra-fast beam steering, feedback-based hybrid precoding, multi-user MIMO, dynamic beam tracking and beam acquisition.

Over the past several months, AT&T and Ericsson have done extensive lab and field testing to optimize the performance of their system. Some specific tests and features that will be demonstrated at this year’s TWS include: multi-Gbps of bandwidth, multiple 4K HD video streams, multi-user MIMO and dynamic beam tracking and acquisition.

The event will be held on October 18 at the Blanton Musuem of Art Edgar Smith Building at the University of Texas at Austin. This year’s Texas Wireless Summit will center around autonomous vehicles, with panels, sessions and demos taking place throughout the event.

RCR Wireless News will be providing full coverage of Texas Wireless Summit 2016, including live video of AT&T’s 5G trial on our Youtube channel.
