Sprint Nextel Corp.’s local-line spin-off company, Embarq Corp., reported that it doubled its wireless customer base in the fourth quarter and earned consolidated profits of $194 million for the quarter.
The company was spun off from Sprint Nextel Corp. in May 2006. Embarq added 24,000 wireless subscribers in the fourth quarter, which doubled its subscriber base to 48,000 as the year ended. According to the company, Embarq had 4,000 business customers and 44,000 consumer customers.
The company also reported that it had more than 1 million high-speed Internet subscribers and nearly 7 million voice access lines.
Embarq’s consolidated net operating revenues were $1.62 billion for the quarter and $6.5 billion for the year. Landline voice made up the vast majority of the company’s revenues, accounting for $4.5 billion for the year, followed by data services ($716 million), high-speed Internet ($393 million) and wireless ($7 million).
