Weekly infrastructure awards wrap-up

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

    Cellular

  • Macau: Alcatel-Lucent said it won a contract to provide a CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev. A network on the island of Macau for China Unicom.
  • Netherlands: T-Mobile Netherlands has selected Nokia Corp. to provide managed services for its W-CDMA 3G and GSM networks.
  • South Africa: Motorola Inc. said it will provide RF planning for Neotel’s WiMAX and CDMA wireless networks.
    WiMAX
  • Sweden: Redline Communications said it has been chosen by Are Network to build a WiMAX network in the country.
  • Taiwan: Chunghwa Telecom selected Alvarion Ltd. to provide a WiMAX solution in Nantou County in the central part of the country.
  • Ukraine: Alvarion Ltd. said Ukrainian High Technologies Ltd. is using its BreezeMAX 3500 to build a commercial WiMAX network in the country. The contract builds on successful deployments in Kiev and Kharkov.
  • United States: Sprint Nextel awarded a contract to Samsung Electronics to develop WiMAX infrastructure for the Washington and Baltimore markets.
    Miscellaneous
  • United States: MobileAccess Networks and Sprint Nextel Corp. are partnering to deploy a wireless network at the George Washington University Hospital.
