PLANTATION, Fla.-A trio of iDEN-based technology carriers announced plans to offer Motorola Inc.’s i305 ruggedized handset, which reportedly meets military specifications for shock, vibration, blowing rain, salt fog resistance and can withstand temperatures ranging from minus 14 to 248 degrees Fahrenheit. The carriers include Nextel Communications Inc., Nextel Partners Inc. and Southern LINC.
The seven-ounce walkie-talkie enabled handset, which Nextel said it would sell for $100 with a two-year contract, includes a black rubber housing, brushed chrome lens guard, interior lining and seals designed to protect against exposure as well as global positioning system capabilities and Internet browser.
