The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
- Cellular
- Japan: L.M. Ericsson and Softbank Mobile Corp. signed an agreement that calls for Ericsson to upgrade Softbank’s W-CDMA/HSPA network.
- Russia: Nokia Corp. said it won a contract valued at more than $421 million to expand MegaFon’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network.
- Panama: Telefonica Moviles Panama, which operates under the Movistar brand, selected Nokia Corp. to build its GSM radio and GPRS network.
- Portugal: Motorola Inc. said it has won a contract to provide managed multivendor network optimization services for TMN’s second-generation and third-generation networks.
Wi-Fi - Qatar: Airspan Networks said it deployed a combined Wi-Fi/WiMAX solution at the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, for Qatar Telecom.
Miscellaneous - Norway: Siemens Networks won a contract from the Norwegian Ministry of Justice to supply a nationwide TETRA emergency call network.
- Lebanon: Motorola Inc. said it provided a Global Applications Management Architecture to MTC for an upgrade of its MIC2 network.
