LOS ANGELES-Helio L.L.C., the self-proclaimed mobile virtual network operator for the young and hip, will launch additional handsets this year and next, according to Rick Heineman, the company’s head of media relations.
Heineman promised to give more details on the company’s handsets soon. Helio already offers a pair of handsets, the Hero and Kickflip, and a CDMA2000 1x EV-DO PC Card. However, the company’s Kickflip phone is listed as out of stock. The phone is built by VK Mobile, which recently filed for bankruptcy, according to media reports.
That Helio plans additional handsets comes as no surprise; MVNOs including Amp’d Mobile Inc. and Disney Mobile are too working to expand their handset portfolio.
“We are more confident than ever in our business model,” said Helio’s Heineman. “Our handsets are exclusives and our content includes mobile MySpace.”
