CTIA, PCIA picked as AWS clearinghouses

WASHINGTON—The Federal Communications Commission tapped cell-phone association CTIA and wireless infrastructure trade group PCIA as clearinghouses for moving existing 2.1 GHz licensees to new frequencies to make room for new advanced wireless services operators.

“PCIA is pleased that the commission recognized the public interest in designating PCIA as an AWS clearinghouse,” said PCIA President Michael Fitch. “Leveraging our experience from the microwave clearinghouse coupled with our current level of proficiency, PCIA is well positioned to ensure an efficient relocation for all interested parties.”

The FCC said designating multiple clearinghouses was a popular option among public commenters. There was only one clearinghouse during the 1.9 GHz PCS relocation process.

“We appreciate the FCC for recognizing the important role CTIA can play to ensure that all parties involved in the post-auction spectrum distribution process are treated justly,” said CTIA President Steve Largent. “By registering with the CTIA spectrum clearinghouse, licensees can comply with FCC rules and ensure reimbursement for their relocation investments by new entrants for years to come.”
