Mobile ESPN exec finds new home with mobile marketing firm

SAN DIEGO—Just a few days after the Mobile ESPN flameout, an executive from the mobile virtual network operator was named chief executive of Soapbox Mobile, a mobile marketing solutions company.

Vladimir Edelman has been named chief executive officer of Soapbox. He joins the company from Mobile ESPN Publishing Worldwide, where he managed ESPN’s domestic and international wireless publishing business. Before that, Edelman was vice president and general manager of Vulcan Sports Media.

Mobile ESPN, which catered to sports fans with a branded handset offering and related sports content, announced last week it would shut down its MVNO operations by the end of the year. The company said it plans instead to pursue a licensing model for its content.
