Cingular completes AT&T Wireless integration

CHICAGO—About two years after its acquisition of AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Cingular Wireless L.L.C. announced it has finished the work of integrating AWS’ GSM network.

Cingular has invested heavily in its network in recent years. The company put $7.5 billion into capital expenditures last year, and is on track to spend another $6 billion this year. The company said its integration work ultimately provides better coverage and fewer dropped calls.

“The integrated network has already paid dividends and provides a foundation for continued expansion,” said Ed Reynolds, Cingular’s president of network services.

Along with the integration work, Cingular also has been rolling out its UMTS/HSDPA mobile broadband network, which the company says is now available in and around 44 major metropolitan areas.
