  • Cellular

  • France: Bouygues Telecom selected Nortel Networks as a supplier for its national high-speed mobile Internet and voice network. Nortel will provide HSDPA technology for the deployment in four regions in the country.

     

  • India: L.M. Ericsson announced a deal with Bharti Airtel to expand the carrier’s GSM/GPRS network capacity and provide managed services. The contract is valued at $1 billion.

     

  • Malaysia: L.M. Ericsson signed a contract with MiTV Corp. to build, manage and maintain the carrier’s W-CDMA/HSPA network throughout the country.

     

  • Nigeria: Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. said it won a contract with CDMA carrier Multi-Links to supply a CDMA2000 1x network in Lagos, Abuja, PHC, Kano, Ibadan and Kaduna.

     

  • Norway: Nokia said it secured a global frame agreement with Nordic operator Telenor to supply microwave radios to be used for transmission from both base stations and fixed applications when new sites are deployed.

    Wi-Fi

     

  • United States: SkyPilot Networks said it won a contract with CenturyTel to build a municipal Wi-Fi network in Vail, Colo.

    WiMAX

     

  • Europe: Alvarion Ltd. said WiMAX Telecom AG has selected the company’s BreezeMAX 3500 system to expand its networks in Austria and Slovakia.

     

  • Poland: Alvarion Ltd. said it won a contract with Netia to supply its BreezeMAX 3600 equipment for a WiMAX deployment in 20 cities in Poland.

     

  • United States: AirTegrity Wireless said it donated a pre-WiMAX system to Sand Harbor State Park in Lake Tahoe.

    Miscellaneous

     

  • Japan: Alvarion Ltd. said it has been chosen by NTT West-Okinawa Corp. to supply its BreezeACCESS VL system for a broadband wireless network planned by the carrier in rural and island areas of Okinawa.

     

  • United States: SkyPilot Networks said it provided equipment for RedZone Wireless’ broadband wireless network in the communities of Rockland and Thomaston, Maine.
