SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. said it plans to spend $18 million to acquire Qualphone Inc., a provider of IP Multimedia Subsystems software for mobile devices and interoperability testing services.
Qualcomm noted the acquisition, which is expected to close this month, will help it accelerate the delivery of multimedia-capable, 3G solutions that reside on top of IMS and multimedia domain architectures for W-CDMA and CDMA2000 markets.
Qualphone’s IMS client platform provides network operators with a technical and commercial framework for offering services using a range of integrated and interactive voice, text, picture and video technologies, according to Qualcomm.
Qualphone’s embedded client framework can be tailored to the specific requirements of individual operators and handset vendors. This will provide Qualcomm with a more efficient launch path for its new 3G products and services, the company said.
