- Digital map developer Navteq announced a product licensing agreement with LandSonar, a predictive traffic supplier. The deal gives Navteq the right to use LandSonar’s Predictive Speed product, which estimates trip time and advises routes based on driving speed combined with the continental road network of the United States.
- Numerex Corp. announced the launch of Airdesk Mobile, a mobile asset and vehicle tracking solution spanning fleet security, credit management and asset recovery.
The company said features of the new offering include enhanced satellite imagery for precise asset and vehicle location accuracy to one meter, as well as traditional two-dimensional read mapping to street coordinates. In addition, Airdesk Mobile is laced with an intuitive Web-based interface for distributors, dealers and consumers, along with operator-assisted theft-recovery support.
- Google Inc. is now serving up traffic conditions to cell-phone-laden drivers in 30 cities through its Google Maps offering.
The company said wireless Web surfers can choose a desired location from their phone and select Google’s “show traffic” option, and the application delivers updated information, using color overlays to indicate conditions on specified commuter routes and providing expected drive times and can compare alternative routes.
