NEW YORK-Verizon Wireless said it will launch a live music service with concert footage from the band Live, pop-rocker Gavin DeGraw and emerging artist Cheyenne Kimball.
The new offering, dubbed Vcast Performances, will include downloadable clips from club and theater shows, Verizon-sponsored tours and special live performances. The service is being promoted with an exclusive performance by Kimball at a New York City club.
Verizon Wireless and other carriers increasingly are looking to performance artists in an effort to tout multimedia offerings. Sprint Nextel Corp. aired live concert footage from Bon Jovi in December, and Amp’d Mobile USA Inc. earlier this year streamed live footage from several acts including alternative rockers Fall Out Boy.
Meanwhile, record labels and recording acts see wireless as a way to overcome plummeting CD sales.
“It’s amazing that I can reach my fans through their phones even if they can’t attend my performance in person,” said Kimball.
