Kyocera handsets to use Bitfone solution for over-the-air updates

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.—Kyocera Wireless Corp. selected Bitfone Corp.’s Device Management Client Suite software for use in its mobile devices, said Bitfone.

The suite includes Bitfone’s mProve and Mobile Variance Agent solutions. MProve will allow Kyocera handsets to have their core software and applications updated over the air, and the MVA product is a device-management client that supports standards-based OMA DM and OMA DL specifications.

The demand for OTA-enabled handsets has attracted a variety of companies to the space, including Red Bend, Innopath Software and Insignia. Bitfone has won OTA contracts with companies such as Motorola Inc., LG Electronics Co. Ltd. and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P.
