Just ahead of the expected announcement of a refreshed iPhone from Apple Inc., Verizon Wireless announced this morning that it was making its Vcast Video service available to its growing library of smartphones powered by Google Inc.’s Android operating system.
The service will be made available in the Verizon Channel section of the Android Market and will be compatible with all of the Android devices currently running on Verizon Wireless’ network. The Vcast Video service will cost $10 per month on top of the $30 per month mandatory data charge for smartphones.
In connection with the expanded availability of the service, Verizon Wireless noted that Univision Interactive Media will be providing live streams of 64 Spanish-language broadcasts from the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer matches from South Africa to Vcast Video users.
