Cingular to supply New Jersey government employees, deal includes priority service

ATLANTA—Cingular Wireless L.L.C. signed a three-year agreement to provide advanced wireless services to state employees in New Jersey.

Cingular will serve as the primary provider of messaging services and devices such as Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerrys, plus wireless priority services that will allow a limited number of government-authorized users to be given precedence on Cingular’s network if capacity is strained during an emergency.

The contract also allows New Jersey’s local governments to buy advanced services and devices from Cingular through the state agreement.

The announcement comes at the same time that Verizon Wireless and Motorola Inc. unveiled a new smart phone, the Q, which is based on the popular Razr handset.
