SAN JOSE, Calif.—Nvidia Corp. said it plans to acquire Hybrid Graphics Ltd., a Finnish company that provides embedded 2-D and 3-D graphics software for handheld devices.

Under the definitive agreement, Hybrid is to become a subsidiary of Nvidia, maintaining support functions for its existing customer base and continuing to sell products under the Hybrid name. The companies provided no further terms of the transaction.

Hybrid said its customers include Nokia Corp., L.M. Ericsson, Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Symbian Ltd.

Last month, Nvidia unveiled its GoForce 3D 5500 single chip solution that supports mobile TV, music and games.
