Verizon Wireless prepaid service now available at Wal-Mart

BEDMINSTER, N.J.—Verizon Wireless inked a major retail distribution deal for its wireless service, agreeing to sell its INpulse offering through 2,300 Wal-Mart Stores Inc. locations nationwide.

The news marks a potentially substantial opportunity for Verizon as Wal-Mart dominates the market among third-party retailers of prepaid wireless services. RadioShack Corp. has sold phones and services from Verizon until the electronics retailer terminated the agreement in favor Cingular Wireless L.L.C. this year.

“Wal-Mart is a clear leader in the retail industry and we are pleased to extend our distribution and the reach of our products to Wal-Mart’s dedicated customer base,” said John Colaiuti, Verizon Wireless’ vice president of national distribution.
