The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
- Malta: Nortel Networks said it is providing EDGE technology to Go Mobile to upgrade the carrier’s network from GPRS. The carrier said it would use the upgrade to support services such as television, video and gaming.
- United States: Andrew Corp. said it is providing its distributed antenna system for in-building coverage for cellular and PCS coverage at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport’s new terminal D, its parking garage and the airport’s Grand Hyatt Hotel.
- The Netherlands: Ericsson said it signed a memorandum of understanding with KPN Mobile to roll out a mobile broadband network based on HSDPA technology. Ericsson said it will be the exclusive provider of third-generation radio access equipment for the network.
Wi-Fi
- United States: TengoInternet said it won a contract to provide Wi-Fi service to Equity LifeStyle Properties Inc.’s properties in eight states.
WiMAX
- Ukraine: PAN Wireless said it has begun deploying WiMAX base stations in Kiev. Aperto Networks is supplying the equipment.
Miscellaneous
- Finland: Nokia said it is working together with Aina Group, a Finnish content and service provider, to develop Aina’s media-based mobile virtual network operator concept.
- The Netherlands: Hopling Technologies said it completed a mesh-networking project on 20 train stations and hot-spot coverage for 50 train stations throughout the Netherlands. The project is managed by KPN for Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the National Dutch Rail Authority.
- Norway: Nokia and Telenor R&D are jointly trialing services for fixed and mobile environments using Fixed-Mobile Convergence technologies.
