LOS ANGELES-Cingular Wireless L.L.C. announced a new offering that brings music concerts to wireless devices via the company’s Cingular Video on-demand streaming video service.
The carrier said it will create, produce and host a series of concerts and then incorporate the taped footage from each event into its exclusive video service. Customers will be able to access highlights of the concerts within days of the event, said the company.
The first event was held Feb. 9 in Los Angeles and included performances by Daddy Yankee and The Pussycat Dolls.
“Showing video content on wireless devices is not necessarily new anymore, but what makes Cingular Sounds Live so unique is that we aren’t chasing music concerts to get this footage,” said David Garver, executive director of segment marketing and sponsorships at Cingular Wireless. “Instead, we are actually creating these mobile music events for the sole purpose of making the content available for our customers to access and enjoy on their wireless phones.”
The new offering is part of the carrier’s Cingular Sounds service, which offers ringtones of music singles before the songs are released to the public. The service was launched in April 2005.
