Carriers who attended CTIA’s 1991 Winter Meeting and Expo expressed hopes the industry could reach 15-percent penetration in the United States by 2000. By mid-2000, the U.S. actually boasted wireless penetration of about 34 percent and led the world in terms of number of subscribers at nearly 94 million, according to RCR’s Top 20 International Wireless Markets list published in 2000.
