Bitfone signs up Amoi for OTA management

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.-Bitfone Corp., which specializes in over-the-air updating technology for mobile phones, said Chinese mobile-phone manufacturer Amoi Electronics plans to use its mProve device management client suite for OTA updates.

Amoi purchased the products to align with the Open Mobile Alliance’s specifications for device management. OTA technologies allow companies to remotely monitor and change phone software.

Separately, Bitfone announced the release of its new Mobile Variance Agent 2.0, a device management agent the company said supports remote device provisioning, configuration, profiling, diagnostics and end-to-end management.

Bitfone’s OTA technology has been selected by a variety of manufacturers including Motorola Inc., LG Electronics Co. Ltd., Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P., Ningbo Bird, Qualcomm Inc. and TCL Mobile.

The demand for OTA-enabled handsets has resulted in a stampede of companies rushing to provide the technology; players include Openwave Systems Inc., Red Bend, Innopath Software and Insignia.
