Motorola develops software to aid in 800 MHz transition

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc. said it has developed software that eases the transition to new spectrum for public-safety communications systems.

The software, which Motorola has been developing for more than a year, reportedly allows critical public-safety communications equipment to be re-banded to a new segment of the 800 MHz spectrum band. The solution is targeted at radios using the National Public Safety Planning Advisory Committee portion of the 800 MHz band, said Motorola.

The Federal Communications Commission ordered a reorganization of the 800 MHz spectrum band to alleviate interference problems between public-safety and commercial radio systems.
