Skyfire CEO interview: Video consumption’s impact on mobile carriers

The impact of the growing consumption of video on mobile operators is already being felt—and carriers need to develop business models that address customer demands and company profits at the same time. Skyfire, a firm that specializes in mobile video optimization and cloud solutions for mobility, looks very carefully at this market. The company recently launched its enhanced video and data optimization platform for operators.

Named Rocket Optimizer 3.0, the latest version of this cloud-based optimization platform comes with new features to measure bandwidth conditions in real time for every subscriber session on an operator’s network; an elastic CloudBurst architecture that allows for instant expansion of optimization capacity for the carrier or public clouds; enhanced optimization algorithms for the MP4 and H.264 video standards; and a cloud-based caching solution.

“Telecom operators need to think about a couple of things,” Jeff Glueck, CEO of Skyfire, told RCR Wireless News in a video interview. “First is retaking control over the network and having reasonable network management. Second is to think about their business model and how to monetize all the video coming across their network. This is not going to be a simple task. It will require some creativity.”
