Cingular completes integration of network in Georgia

ATLANTA, Ga.-Cingular Wireless L.L.C. said it completed network integration work in Georgia, as well as integration efforts in parts of Alabama and Florida, and expanded its coverage areas in those states.

In Georgia, Cingular said it kept and integrated more than 475 cell sites from AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s network, while it built 130 new cell sites. The carrier reported that subscribers in Fayette, Paulding, Forsyth and Sumter counties will receive improved coverage due to the investment.

In Alabama Cingular said it  invested $125 million last year into adding 77 new cell sites, portable generators and back-up batteries, and rolling out new data services. The company added eight new cell sites in central and northern Florida counties in December, including sites in Melbourne, western Lake City and Panama City Beach.

Cingular said that it $6.2 billion nationally during 2005 on integration programs and plans to spend another $6 billion this year. The carrier added that it expects the network initiatives to be finished by the third quarter of 2006.
