PalmSource Inc. made several announcements at the COMDEX show in Las Vegas this week.
The company announced the launch of the Palm Powered MobileWorld program for mobile operators, infrastructure providers and software developers focused on the smart-phone market.
The program’s purpose is to allow mobile operators to collaborate with PalmSource on Palm OS platform development efforts and to work with PalmSource to create a catalog of software for over-the-air delivery to Palm Powered smart phones. PalmSource announced Sprint PCS is the first mobile operator partner in the Palm Powered MobileWorld program.
In addition, PalmSource launched a new online software store that offers more than 20,000 Palm OS software titles for Palm Powered smart mobile devices. At http://www.palmsource.com/software users can trial, purchase and download software in categories including Web browsers, e-mail and Internet communications, sales force and field automation, personal productivity, groupware, financial management, multimedia and games.
Finally, PalmSource announced PerComm Inc., which manufactures ReFLEX advanced messaging devices and FLEX and POCSAG 1-way devices, has licensed the Palm OS platform. Using the platform, PerComm plans to develop new smart mobile devices that operate on ReFLEX, GSM and CDMA wireless networks.
