Jason Reitman, the Academy Award nominated director responsible for films like Up in the Air and Juno, took the opportunity at Marvell’s recent Avanta launch to talk about the lack of a decent internet connection being a barrier to entry in the movie making business.
Unlike writing, which requires only a pen and paper, film making today requires a slew of sophisticated software tools and super fast broadband, which not everyone can afford.
Reitman praised Marvell’s new Avanta initiative, which aims to deliver Internet into the home at speeds up to 100 times faster than today’s cable and DSL offerings through optical fiber.
Avanta, according to Reitman, would open up the world of entertainment, making it much easier to upload and download films and video, not to mention connecting to people via high definition video recording, and even doing it all on a large screen without delays, disruption or lost connection.
Not only will it change the consumer experience, but it has the potential to change how the industry operates, enabling studios, developers and producers to overcome today’s limitations and employ new ways to create and sell compelling content and services.
