Dell Tegra tablets rumored

With all the tablets being announced, rumored and wished for of late, one would be forgiven for thinking we’ve entered a new biblical age – and Dell is the latest firm coming down the mountain.

Engadget has managed to get its hands on a couple of leaked images of the upcoming seven and 10 inch Dell Streak tablets, much to the computer maker’s chagrin.

Our sources tell us Dell is “very, very angry” about the leak, and is currently hunting out the culprit with pitchforks. Well, we may be exaggerating a tad about the pitchforks. But here’s what we do know:

Both tablets will be streaking their way to shelves “within the next year or so,” so expect to see plenty more leaks and rumors over the next few months. Our best guess would be an October/November launch for the seven inch, with the 10 inch likely to emerge in early 2011.

Sources have informed RCR Unplugged that it’s “a fairly good bet these tablets will be launched in conjunction with AT&T,” so that means 3G enablement for users’ surfing pleasure. It will also probably launch at a lower price point than Apple’s iPad, making it a promising competitor.

Even more interesting was a tip-off from our source to “ask Nvidia about it,” which we hope means the tablets will sport Tegra – and run Android.

Of course, we did ask Nvidia, and Nvidia refused to tell us anything at all about said tablet, with senior PR manager, Bruce Chang, noting the firm had over 50 design wins in the pipeline, but would not comment on rumor or speculation. But with 50 design wins coming soon, we can’t help but hope that Dell’s Streak is among them. It would make it something of a “winning streak” if you ask us.

Meanwhile Dell was just as tightlipped, offering a terse and formal;

“Dell continually develops and tests new products that extend the mobile experience. We have not made any product announcements and do not comment on speculation, rumor or unannounced products.”
