Consumers Union launches site targeting wireless consumer issues

YONKERS, New York-The Consumers Union, which publishes Consumer Reports magazine and which has been a staunch critic of the wireless industry, has launched a Web site, EscapeCellHell.org, to increase consumer power and improve wireless services, the group said.

“By fighting for basic standards like simplified calling plans, adequate trial periods and understandable bills, EscapeCellHell.org aims to improve wireless service plans and call quality,” the site says. “EscapeCellHell.org also offers consumers advice on comparison shopping for cell-phone service, tips on how to complain and information on cell-phone safety.”

The site includes a page with information on local number portability and how to contact U.S. representatives and senators to ensure LNP is implemented. It also offers a page for consumers to enter their “cell hell horror” stories.
