Openwave Mobility partners with Sandvine to manage video traffic (video)

With mobile video projected to represent two thirds of all mobile data traffic by 2017, service providers must manage and monetize video traffic to stay competitive. Openwave Mobility and Sandvine said this week that they will integrate their software solutions to enable “the most scalable mobile data applications solution available on the market today.”

The partnership integrates Sandvine’s policy traffic switch with Openwave’s Integra4 value-added software, which enables service providers to optimize video delivery and engage subscribers with real-time offers.

Sandvine says its deep packet inspection technology recognizes “hundreds and hundreds of different protocols” with a high level of accuracy and can redirect them to the Interga4 software to enable services like video optimization, parental controls or real-time promotions.

“If I am investing in either of these platforms I have the ability to evolve the respective platforns, keep the best of breed in each of those yet still enjoy the advantage of a more integrated solution,” said Openwave CEO John Giere.

RCR Wireless caught up with Openwave and Sandvine at the CCA Spring Show this week and learned more about their partnership.
