One completely ingenious product spotted at WiMAX Forum Congress Asia 2010, was a little mobile WiMAX to WiFi device running on an integrated Lithium ion battery which can be slipped into your bag, briefcase or even left in your car.
Users simply log it into the WiMAX network, and then set it up to emit a Wireless access point. Finally all that’s needed is to log in from your iPad, iPod Touch or any other WiFi enabled device to get faster than 3.5G internet in any WiMAX location.
Couple this with the day/week/month WiMAX passes available in Taipei and together it’s a perfect option for business folk needing roaming internet without wanting to upgrade all the notebooks, phones and other gadgets with WiMAX chips.
Obviously it’s not limited to just one user, either – anyone within a few meter radius can take advantage of it. So make sure you lock it down or risk being followed by sneaky teenagers on their iPods and cell phones.
