Whistler deploys Wi-Fi for skiers, locals

WALTHAM, Mass.-In a move facilitating business on the slopes, British Columbia, Canada-based ski resort Whistler selected V-Link Solutions to provide Wi-Fi based wireless Internet services to more than 6,500 guest rooms, including hotels, condominiums, bed and breakfasts, lodges and private residences.

Colubris Networks, which provided the Wi-Fi equipment for Whistler’s Yodel service, noted the first phase of the network has been deployed in 11 locations throughout the main Village of Whistler covering approximately 50 percent of all guest accommodations, including a number of sites that will be part of the resort’s 2010 Winter Olympic offices.

Users, which could include the 10,000 Whistler residences or more than 2 million yearly visitors, will be offered a range of billing options including one-, three- and seven-day prepaid access cards sold throughout the main village.
