VANCOUVER, British Columbia-Telus Corp. reported its wireless division added 102,800 subscribers during the second quarter, bringing the carrier’s total customer base to 3.2 million subscribers.
The carrier said customer growth was a 54-percent improvement compared with the 66,700 subscribers Telus Mobility added during the first quarter of this year and slightly ahead of second-quarter 2002 results.
Customer churn also improved from 2 percent during the second quarter of 2002 to 1.3 percent this year, which Telus Mobility attributed to a number of network improvements and customer-retention initiatives, as well as changes to select rate plans that included free night and weekend calling minutes.
Telus Mobility’s total revenues increased 15.5 percent from $355 million during the second quarter of 2002 to $410 million in the second quarter of this year, which the carrier said was due to its strong customer growth during the quarter and an increase in average revenue per user.
Last year ARPU stood at $39.70. This year that figure increased to $40.42, according to the Canadian carrier.
