Midwest Wireless reaches 300K users

MANKATO, Minn.-Regional wireless operator Midwest Wireless said it has reached the 300,000-subscriber milestone.

“It’s just amazing that what started about 13 years ago as an idea for connecting rural Minnesota has grown to all this,” said Dennis Miller, president and chief executive officer of Midwest Wireless. “To think that we are providing a service that helps enhance the lives of 300,000 individuals is both humbling and awe inspiring.”

Midwest said it hit the 100,000-customer benchmark in September 1999 when it operated in 36 counties in Minnesota, and passed the 200,000-subscriber mark at the end of 2000 after it launched service in 28 counties in Iowa and four counties in Wisconsin it acquired in March 2000.

Midwest now controls wireless licenses in 68 counties in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin and recently announced plans to overlay its legacy TDMA network with cdma2000 1x technology.
