NEW YORK-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. is expected to cut about 1,000 jobs, or approximately 3 percent of its current work force, this year as part of the carrier’s plans to consolidate its national operations into its Redmond, Wash., and New York/New Jersey-area headquarters.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the job cuts are expected to happen in waves with 200 workers being cut this week and an additional 300 job cuts expected later this month.
An AT&TW spokesman told RCR Wireless News last month the cuts would streamline the carrier’s six regions to four in an attempt to help the company operate more efficiently. AT&T Wireless also said that it had made offers to relocate employees when possible.
