Carriers today are facing the problem of managing over-the-top players and transforming this threat into opportunity. It will not be easy, but by using some analytics tools, telecom operators could create new revenue streams and work better with OTT services to deliver the next generation of customer experience.
In a video interview, Steve Hateley, Comptel’s head of marketing, spoke about how telecom operators can leverage predictive analytics to compete and/or integrate with OTT services. He also commented on how service providers can use analytics to monetize OTT services.
The need for carriers to use analytics solutions to deal with OTT is underscored by recent market predictions: According to Strategy Analytics, carrier SMS revenue in Europe and the Middle East will drop 40% by 2015, while communication service providers around the world are expected to lose about $3 billion in revenue between 2012 and 2017. By the end of 2013, Informa Telecoms & Media estimates that the number of OTT messages will be double the number of peer-to-peer SMS messages.
